Sarah Gilmour is Outreach Coordinator for Pathways to Success. Sarah started her career path in Retail in various positions in Chicago, Illinois. She moved to Wilmington, Delaware in 1979, continuing a retail management career path. In one of her positions as a Store Manager for a women’s clothing store, Sarah traveled to other states where stores were being opened to help train sales associates and set up the stores for openings. These stores were located in Gross Pointe, Michigan, Charlotte, North Carolina, Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland.
In 1986, she changed careers and entered the Banking arena as a Customer Service Representative at Chase Manhattan Bank in Wilmington. In 1989 she and her husband, John, moved to Southern Delaware. Sarah acquired a Team Leader’s position at First Omni Bank’s Call Center in Millsboro. During her 13-year tenure at the Millsboro Call Center facility (First Omni Bank, Allfirst Bank, then M&T Bank), she held various positions including Customer Service Manager/Officer, Marketing Assistant, and Sales Center Manager/Officer.
Sarah’s customer service background in Retail aided her in motivating her team (s) to reach success. She was motivated by an outstanding leader, Fay Blake. The management team that was led by Ms. Blake was very unique. Everyone worked together to meet (and exceed!) goals. Sarah’s Retention team won an award for their customer retention results and her Sales team won a “Sell-a-Bration award” for achieving a top sales team status. The award was presented at a conference in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Sarah made the switch from for-profit to non-profit after leaving Banking. For 8 years she worked for the American Red Cross as Volunteer Services Manager. She was responsible for recruiting, training and retaining Red Cross volunteers in the state of Delaware and 8 counties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Sarah recognized the volunteers with a personal phone call or thank you card after they helped respond to a disaster, helped with a fundraiser or trained others in life-saving skills like CPR/First Aid. Sarah also assisted with fundraisers in Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland by acquiring silent auction items from local companies, setting up the fundraisers and helping at the fundraisers by guiding the volunteers that were assisting.
Upon retiring from the Red Cross, Sarah began helping Pathways to Success with grants. Most recently she is helping as outreach coordinator with the goal of building awareness about this wonderful organization. She has helped build awareness by writing press releases and arranging meetings with her contacts and Fay Blake, the Pathways to Success Director. Sarah also helps with the Pathways to Success Fair Housing outreach. Her expertise in customer service and sales has helped in interacting with a diverse Southern Delaware population – from youth to seniors, from small business owners to large business owners – all to build awareness, raise funds to carry on the Pathways mission. The organization is now an agency with Volunteer Delaware +50. Sarah will use her Volunteer Services management expertise to recruit volunteers for Pathways!
Sarah also volunteers for the Alzheimer’s Association in the capacity of Volunteer Walk Co-Captain for the Rehoboth Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
